While saving energy helps Michigan homes and businesses save money, it’s also rewarding for companies that put customers first.

For the third time in four years, Consumers Energy was honored with the ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year award, presented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy.

Consumers Energy is one of only nine utilities nationwide to receive an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award in 2015 for Energy Efficiency Program Delivery. Since 2009, Consumers Energy has helped homes and businesses save $855 million with energy efficiency rebates and programs.

“Our ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award winners demonstrate that energy efficiency is a smart business decision that supports their bottom line and helps customers save money and energy,” said Gina McCarthy, EPA Administrator.

Consumers Energy is teaming with other Michigan allies to help save the planet with ENERGY STAR.

Cobblestone Homes, based in Saginaw, Mich., is one of 1,200 trade allies in the Consumers Energy network. The homebuilder earned a 2015 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award in New Home Construction. Cobblestone also was recently recognized by Consumers Energy for building the Most Efficient New Homes in the electric service territory.

“It is a great honor to be one of four home builders in the country recognized with this prestigious award,” said Melissa Wahl, co-owner of Cobblestone Homes.

  • Working with more than 300 retailers across Michigan to promote ENERGY STAR certified lighting and appliances and distributing 85,000 ENERGY STAR certified light bulbs to those in need through partnerships with local food banks
  • Educating customers about lighting through major community events, such as converting the Grand Rapids New Year’s Eve ball from halogen to ENERGY STAR certified LED bulbs
  • Providing rebates for 510 ENERGY STAR certified homes, a 24 percent increase from 2013 (411 homes)
  • Helping 10 HVAC companies achieve new credentials to work with ENERGY STAR, increasing the number of active contractors by 33 percent

Consumers Energy also earned an ENERGY STAR Certified Homes Market Leader Award as a sponsor in recognition of its continued commitment to providing our nation’s homebuyers with ENERGY STAR certified homes. This award recognizes the company’s work in promoting energy efficient construction and helping homebuyers experience the peace of mind, quality, comfort and value that come with living in an ENERGY STAR certified home. In 2014, Consumers Energy contributed to 513 ENERGY STAR certified homes.

In addition, Michigan homebuilders Allen Edwin and Mayberry Homes received ENERGY STAR Homes Market Leader Awards; both participate in the Consumers Energy New Home Construction program. At its annual Excellence in Energy Efficiency Awards event, Consumers Energy named Allen Edwin as Top Performing New Home Builder and Mayberry Homes as Most Efficient New Homes – Natural Gas.

“The continued recognition of our efforts by ENERGY STAR confirms that we are making a difference in leaving it better than we found it,” said Teri VanSumeren, Director of Smart Energy Efficiency Solutions.
