HOW TO: Start, Stop or Transfer Service Online with Consumers Energy

No one enjoys moving. Packing, taping, lifting, shipping—the process gets old before you even get started. After all the sweat and tears, the moment you relax in your new home, with everything perfectly in place, is when the move becomes worth it. Consumers Energy wants to help you get to that comfortable feeling. We’ve updated the process for you to start, stop or transfer energy services for a painless move.

Start, Stop or Transfer Service with Ease

Let Consumers Energy do the heavy lifting. By accessing our new online request form, you can start, stop or transfer energy service quickly. Here’s a guide to using the forms for your next big move.

Start Service

  1. Go to ConsumersEnergy.com/move
  2. Select the “Click here to get started” link under the “Start, Stop or Transfer Service” section at the top of the page.
  3. Customers can select three combinations:

  1. Enter your move in date and address then click Continue. Once your address is verified, you will receive an “Address Status” success message, click Continue.
  2. Complete all required fields and click Continue.
  3. You will receive a page outlining your request information. If the information is correct, click Continue to submit your request.
  4. After your request is submitted, you will receive a confirmation page with the date the service(s) will be put in your name, as well as, a confirmation number for reference. An email containing your request information and confirmation number will also be sent to you.
  5. Enjoy your new home!

Stop Service

  1. Go to ConsumersEnergy.com/move.
  2. Select the “Click here to get started” link under the “Start, Stop or Transfer Service” section at the top of the page
  3. Customers can select three combinations:

  1. Enter your move out date, complete all required fields and the security challenge. Click Continue when you’ve finished. Once your account is verified, click Continue once more.
  2. Let us know where you’d like the final bill to be sent and click Continue.
  3. A pop-up will appear with your billing address information. If the information is correct, click OK or click Cancel to update.
  4. Verify your request information on the next page. If the information is correct, click Continue to submit your request.
  5. After your request is submitted, you will receive a confirmation page with the date the service(s) will be taken out of your name, as well as, a confirmation number for reference. An email containing your request information and confirmation number will also be sent to you.

Transfer Service

  1. Go to ConsumersEnergy.com/move.
  2. Select the “Click here to get started” link under the “Start, Stop or Transfer Service” section at the top of the page.
  3. Customers can select three combinations:

  1. Enter your move out date, complete all required fields and the security challenge. Click continue when you’ve finished.
  2. Enter the move in date of the location you’d like to start service for and complete all of the required fields, then click Continue. Verify your account information and click Continue once more.
  3. Enter your contact information to transfer your service(s) and then click Continue. A pop-up will appear with your contact information. Click OK if the information is correct or click Cancel to update.
  4. Verify your request information on the next page. If the information is correct, click Continue to submit your request.
  5. After your request is submitted, you will receive a confirmation page with the date the service(s) will be taken out of your name and the date your new service(s) will be put in your name, as well as, a confirmation number for reference. An email containing your request information and confirmation number will also be sent to you.
  6. Enjoy your new home!
