This June, we encourage you to celebrate National Dairy Month with an ice-cold glass of Michigan-made milk. June Dairy Month has been around for 77 years and counting—a holiday which honors the dairy farms and businesses in Michigan who support our rural economy every day.
Consumers Energy is proud to work with the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA), a farm-family cooperative established in 1916. Since its launch, MMPA has set the precedent for the success of today’s dairy industry.
MMPA’s Grade-A Milk Plants
The Michigan Milk Producers Association has milk processing plants in Ovid and Constantine. Its plants produce:
- Nonfat dry milk, low medium and high heat
- Whole milk powder
- Dried buttermilk
- Instant nonfat dry milk
- Condensed skim milk
- Condensed whole milk
- Skim milk
- Sweet cream butter
Its products serve as ingredients to a variety of food makers who sell yogurt, ice cream, candy and baby formulas.
MMPA is Sustainable
Improvements of innovation and efficiency efforts have assisted the dairy farm industry to reduce its environmental impact per gallon of milk. Since 1944, the Michigan Milk Producers Association has showcased its sustainability by using:
- 90 percent less cropland
- 76 percent less manure
- 65 percent less water
- 63 percent less carbon
Consumers Energy offers Agricultural services to farm customers across Michigan.
