Consumers Energy has been helping the Girl Scouts in Michigan earn the exclusive Energy Expert patch since 2006. Now Cub Scouts, too, can earn their very own Energy Expert patch.
Scouts become Energy Experts by completing a number of activities about electric and natural gas safety, energy use, sources of energy and careers in the energy industry.
Founded in 1930, Cub Scouting is for boys in first through fifth grade and encourages ethical decision making, character development and citizen leadership. In 2011, there were more than 1.5 million Cub Scouts.
“I’m always amazed at the number of Scouts that want to learn about energy,” said Megan Cary, Consumers Energy education programs administrator. “We were so happy to design patches just for Cubs.”
Consumers Energy supports Michigan Scout troops by hosting Energy Expert events so Scouts can tour facilities and learn from experts in the industry. To celebrate the new patches, Consumers Energy will host four events on March 9. Please visit our Scouts page for registration information.
Troops also have the opportunity to earn the patch on their own, by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
“Scouts are part of the future, and the more they learn about energy, the better our future will be,” Cary said.
Consumers Energy offers multiple educational programs, including the Energy Expert Scout program. For more information, visit our Brain Station website.
“In a very real sense, the principles learned and practiced as Boy Scouts add to the strength of America and her ideals.” – John F. Kennedy, first Scout to become president.
