VIA Motors, a Detroit-based company, is converting Chevrolet pickups and vans to extended range plug-in electric vehicles. VIA has incorporated technology similar to that of the Chevy Volt to address vehicles typically used in fleet applications.

Consumers Energy is one of the few select utilities across the country who have engaged with companies like VIA Motors to pursue the advancement of alternative energy vehicles.

VIA has a plant located near GM’s manufacturing facilities in the Detroit area where they are converting pickup’s vans and suburban’s, as well as an engineering facility in Auburn Hills.  Consumers Energy believes this concept brings forth a progressive approach to incorporating electric drive technology to the fleet industry.
