Copper wire theft is an illegal and dangerous problem throughout the country and Michigan. Coming in contact with live power lines and transformers, thieves put themselves at risk of serious injury or death and being the cause of electrical failures or outages throughout neighborhoods.
Consumers Energy offers up to a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in the theft of copper, vandalism, tampering or trespassing at an electric substation or service center.
