Help Us Build Sustainable Communities in Michigan with Social Media

Time is running out! In April we began donating $1 for every new Facebook like and Twitter follow the Consumers Energy pages received, to West Michigan Environmental Action Council (WMEAC), a nonprofit organization working to protect and enhance West Michigan’s natural and human environments by translating the concerns of people into positive action. Through mid-June, we have raised more than $1,000 for this worthy cause thanks to our existing and new social media followers. The campaign will wrap up this Friday, June 29. To support WMEAC, simply “Like” us on Facebook and “Follow” us on Twitter.

Many of our posts during this time have promoted the environmental side of our business. For example, employees at our Whiting plant near Monroe maintain a wildflower meadow and American lotus pond as part of the site’s wildlife habitat programs, which were first certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council in 1991.

Over at our Karn/Weadock plant near Bay City, we have the largest rehabilitation pen in the state for raptors. It allows injured birds to exercise and recover until they are ready to return to their natural environment. The pen allows the birds to hunt on their own so they will not become dependent upon or accustomed to human interference. In a joint effort to protect bald eagle habitat in the Saginaw Bay Watershed, plant employees and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service installed a bald eagle nesting platform on the north side of the Karn/Weadock site. In addition to the current “environmental” focus, we communicate almost daily on Facebook and Twitter about energy efficiency, outage information, company updates and other information which will benefit or impact our customers’ daily lives. We invite you to begin following us and communicating with us on our social media channels. Join the conversation, today!
