New Platform Will Enhance Access to Prime Fishing Spot

With the arrival of the trout fishing season, anglers are testing their skills on the Au Sable River in Michigan. Recognized as one of the premier trout fishing rivers in the nation, the Au Sable River runs approximately 80 miles from near Grayling to Lake Huron and is classified as a “blue ribbon” by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

A new project at our Mio Hydro, one of Consumers Energy’s six hydroelectric facilities on the Au Sable River, will allow local residents and nearby campers to take advantage of the river’s exceptional fishing experience. Construction started in March to build a fishing access platform that will meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and sit atop the spillway retaining wall just below the dam. It also will be located near a portion of the river that is federally designated as a National Wild and Scenic River.

The platform is expected to be completed in early June. This project will be one of many ongoing recreational opportunities that we will continue to provide as part of our hydroelectric facilities.
