For the last few years, Consumers Energy has focused its economic development efforts on strategies targeted toward smaller towns and rural areas. These smaller communities make up a large portion of the areas we serve in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. While many of the strategies we introduced over the last few years are designed for smaller communities, many can be adapted for larger, more urban areas or neighborhoods
Part of this economic development focus is our active support of the annual Michigan Small Towns and Rural Development Conference hosted by Rural Partners of Michigan. In its six years, this conference has brought in 20 nationally recognized speakers and hosted more than 75 sessions important to the success of smaller communities.
From the experts and topics introduced at these conferences, a series of free presentations is now available to help share the best ideas with your community. All presentations have been developed in collaboration with the original speakers to assure the integrity of the concepts and to maximize the delivered messages.
For 2011 we are offering the following three presentations to communities, groups and organizations:
- The Asset Connection Experience – A program that engages citizens to create and implement “doable” short-term projects.
- Sustainable Strategies for Small Towns – Trends favoring small towns and concepts that are working in these communities.
- We’re Better Together – Five simple strategies to get our citizens more involved in a community’s success.
