In Your Community For More Than A Century

Consumers Energy has a long history of serving Michigan communities. The company was founded in 1886 by William Augustine Foote, a flour mill operator and entrepreneur who enjoyed tinkering with electricity. Foote teamed up with Samuel Jarvis to secure a franchise agreement from the city council in Jackson, Michigan to illuminate the downtown area with arc lighting. Their innovative vision transformed his company from a small downtown lighting project to one of the nation’s largest utility companies. For a full history visit consumersenergy.com.
